Menopause officially occurs when you have stopped menstruating for 12 full months or have had a surgical procedure that includes removing both ovaries (oophorectomy). This stage in a Woman’s life is well known, but there are different stages leading up to Menopause that are important to recognize.
Perimenopause is the Menopause transitional phase that occurs prior to stopping menstruation. This stage can occur years before a woman enters the Menopause stage. Often symptoms can be similar to Menopause, but the treatment options are different.
